African Restaurants
KILIMANJARO | Rapenburgerplein 6 | (020) 622 3485 | www.restaurantkilimanjaro.com

Attention to detail and friendly service rate high at this clean, airy gem of a restaurant specialising in traditional dishes from various African countries – including Ethiopian-style pancakes (ideal for a romantic date). Plump for the Alligator cocktail or the Mongozo beer (served in a bowl) to wash the feast down and round off your meal with the ceremonious Ethiopian coffee – served with popcorn! They also have a very sweet, peaceful pavement terrace.

LALIBELA | Eerste Helmersstraat 249 | (020) 683 8332 | www.lalibela.nl

Tucked down a little street just a short stroll from the center of the Vondelpark is this authentic Ethiopian eatery which serves delicious pancake dishes (fingers only), with plenty of choice for vegetarians. Mongoza beer is served in coconut shells and the traditional pot of coffee to round off the meal comes with incense. A delight (and very wallet-friendly).

PYGMA-LION | Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 5a | (020) 420 7022 | www.pygma-lion.com

If you're after crocodile steak or minced zebra meatballs, then head to this minimally-designed South African restaurant. For the less adventurous – and vegetarians – there is an eclectic menu.
