AMSTERDAM
Chinese Restaurants

I'm afraid I don't do Chinese. Not only do I avoid MSG like the plague, but my taste buds just aren't finely tuned when it comes to this cuisine. However, if it's your thing, then head to the Nieuwmarkt/Zeedijk area which is Amsterdam's 'Chinatown' and you'll be spoilt for choice (there's also various Chinese supermarkets there too). The restaurant that comes best recommended by friends is Nam Kee. Their oysters are legendary. Apparently.

This huge pagoda-style Chinese restaurant (seating 700) uniquely floats on a small dock just two minutes from Centraal Station, en route to OBA, the city's amazing library. The menu is extensive and you can expect authentic cuisine from China: not just Cantonese staples such dim sum or won ton soup, but more unusual dishes from the imperial Beijing or spicy Sechuan cuisine. It's open daily for lunch or dinner. On the downside it's a little bit touristy, but then again, a great view across the waterfront.
